Dangerous Hack on Smart Devices

Researchers from Unit 42 discovered that a vulnerability in the Realtek Jungle SDK has been exploited in a large-scale attack on IoT devices. The vulnerability, known as CVE-2021-35394, allowed for remote code execution and affected almost 190 device types produced by 66 different companies. Most of the attacks were attempts to infect susceptible devices with malware. The vulnerability was made public in August 2021 and affects UDPServer in Realtek Jungle SDK versions 2.0 and later. The recent uptick in attacks exploiting the vulnerability highlights the danger of supply chain vulnerabilities, and it is crucial to regularly update devices with the latest patches and updates.

In today’s digital age, more and more devices are being connected to the internet, creating what we call the Internet of Things (IoT). While IoT devices can make our lives easier and more convenient, they also present serious security risks if not properly secured. That’s where Fully Functional Technology comes in – we specialize in hardening IT security to prevent IoT hacks.

First, let’s define what we mean by “harden.” To harden IT security means to make it more difficult for unauthorized individuals or groups to gain access to your network or devices. This is done through a combination of physical and digital measures that include firewalls, encryption, user authentication, and more.

One of the biggest risks associated with IoT devices is their susceptibility to hacking. These devices are often designed to be easily accessible and convenient to use, which can make them vulnerable to attacks. Hackers can use a variety of techniques to exploit these vulnerabilities, including malware, phishing, and social engineering.

Fully Functional Technology takes a proactive approach to IT security by implementing best practices to protect your network and devices. Our team of experts can conduct a thorough assessment of your network and identify areas of weakness that need to be addressed. We then work with you to implement a comprehensive security strategy that includes firewalls, intrusion detection and prevention, user authentication, and other measures.

One of the key components of our security strategy is educating users on how to stay safe online. We provide training on how to identify phishing emails, how to create strong passwords, and how to use two-factor authentication to secure accounts. This not only helps prevent attacks on your network, but also protects your employees and customers from falling victim to cybercrime.

IT Security

Another way Fully Functional Technology can harden your IT security is by implementing regular security updates and patches. IoT devices are often designed with a long lifespan, which means they may not receive regular security updates from the manufacturer. We can help ensure that all your devices are up-to-date with the latest security patches to prevent known vulnerabilities from being exploited.

In addition, we can help you implement strict access controls to prevent unauthorized access to your network or devices. This includes setting up role-based access controls and multi-factor authentication, so that only authorized individuals have access to sensitive data or systems.
